In 2009 however, Reglan side effects required the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to take action. The result was a required warning label printed on packaging that contained Reglan and other drugs containing Metoclopramide. The warning outlined the risks associated with long-term or high-dose use of the drug. The use of Reglan has been linked to tardive dyskinesia, which cases the body to make involuntary movements.

Reglan Side Effect Tardive Dyskinesia

Tardive dyskinesia is a side effect found in a number of Reglan patients. The disorder causes involuntary movements such as the following:

  • Eye-blinking
  • Face jerking
  • Jaw disorder
  • Body jerking
  • Mouth and tongue disorder

For some patients Reglan symptoms such as the above mentioned are permanent. There is currently no standard therapy but certain drugs can be used as a treatment.
