The drug Lexapro is an antidepressant medicine that could cause serious side effects to patients. The drug has also been referred to as Cipralex, Seroplex, Lexamil and Lexam. The Danish pharmaceutical company that manufacturers the drug, Lundbeck AG marketed the prescription as a treatment for major depression and general anxiety disorder (GAD). In 2011, there was an updated FDA Warning which stated that due to other conflicting studies the FDA is unable to reach any conclusion regarding the link between the use of Lexapro and PPHN.
Another significant side effect that Lexapro has allegedly caused are increased thoughts of suicide. In 2006, the FDA analyzed 372 cases of antidepressants and the findings resulted in added warnings to consumers of Lexapro.
